The Bronx is home to one of the largest Albanian populations in the world. This community brings with it a unique culture and cuisine. Known for succulent grilled meats and flaky, savory pastries, Albanian food is a treasured part of our borough’s culinary scene. See below for our picks for the best Albanian restaurants in the Bronx.

1. Çka Ka Qëllu
2321 Hughes Ave

If you are going to visit one Albanian restaurant in the Bronx, we suggest Çka Ka Qëllu. This Michelin-recommended restaurant was one of only three Bronx restaurants to make the NY Times’ 2024 list of best restaurants in New York City. The decor — exposed walls, stone masonry, antique tools — transport you to a medieval Balkan cottage. But its the food that makes this place stand out. Çka Ka Qëllu aces all the Albanian food staples: flaky meat pastries, savory dips and succulent grilled meats. If you haven’t been, this is a must-visit in the Bronx.

2. Prizreni Grill
1080 Morris Park Ave

The newest addition to the Bronx’s Albanian dining scene, Prizreni Grill opened on Morris Park Avenue in April. The restaurant has a sleek, modern design while remaining warm and welcoming. This place works for a casual dinner or special occasion. You will not be disappointed by the Albanian food staples (byrek and qebapa are great), but we recommend the Albanian pizza — a unique variation of Italian pizza that you must try if you want to familiarize yourself with Albanian cuisine.

3. Dukagjini Burek
758 Lydig Ave

Owner Marjan Kolnrekaj claims to come from a family that has been making burek for a hundred years — and we believe him. If you’re craving this flaky, savory pastry, there’s nowhere better than Dukagjini Burek. Order by the slice or enjoy a whole pie.

4. Besa Grill
2133 Williamsbridge Rd

This unassuming restaurant along Williamsbridge Road seems to always have patrons — and for good reason. The food is expertly made with quality ingredients. We recommend anything on the menu. Everything they make excels at representing authentic Albanian cuisine. Great for a casual meal or take out.

5. Gura Cafe
2325 Arthur Ave

We love Gura Cafe’s cozy, fun atmosphere. They make outstanding burgers, which you can enjoy alongside classic Albanian dishes like qebapa, pasul and suxuk. A perfect spot to enjoy a meal with friends.

6. Dea

608 Crescent Ave

This is a great place to stop by for a coffee and pastry while taking in the foot traffic outside. Dea specializes in authentic Albanian pies, byrek and other baked goods.

7. Teuta Qebaptore

603 E 186th Street

This casual, no‑frills Albanian grill excels at making traditional Albanian dishes: warm, airy breads, crisp salads and succulent grilled meats. This place is ideal to grab lunch or for a casual dinner.

8. Cakor
632 E 186th Street

This cozy, Albanian cafe in Belmont never disappoints. There is a something here for every occasion. The seafood, sandwiches and grilled entrees are all delicious. A great place for a meal if you’re in the neighborhood.
