New Yorkers take their pizza very seriously. Every New York media institution has at some point published a list, or several lists, of their picks for the best pizza in the City. Manhattan and Brooklyn usually take the lion’s share of entries, while the Bronx is often overlooked. This is unfortunate because we believe the best pizza comes from the Bronx. See below for our list of the best pizza in the Bronx.

1. Emilio’s of Morris Park

1051 Morris Park Ave, Bronx, NY 10461

This beloved pizzeria finally got its big break this year when it landed on the NY Times’ list of 25 best pizza restaurants in the City. The recognition is well-deserved, but locals have been enjoying Emilio’s pies for many years. Their pizza is known for blending classic Italian ingredients with creative twists, but the one that really puts it on the map is their signature chicken vodka pizza, a pie that layers grilled chicken over penne‑vodka sauce. The ingredients in their food are outstanding, but what sets Emilio’s even further ahead of the pack is their generous portions: each slice has more toppings than you’ll usually find on an entire pie. As is probably evident, Emilio’s is the #1 pizza shop in our hearts — and in our bellies.

2. Louie & Ernie’s Pizza

1300 Crosby Ave, Bronx, New York, New York 10461

Unlike Emilio’s, Louie & Ernie’s Pizza has been grabbing media attention for years. It’s consistently ranked among the best pizza’s in the City, and for good reason. This no-frills pizza joint makes exceptional pies using quality, local ingredients. The fennel‑spiced sausage pizza is a must try. A great place to grab a slice on the go or enjoy a whole pie with friends in the backyard seating area.

3. Original Joe’s Pizzeria

2136 Williamsbridge Rd, Bronx, NY 10461

This local pizza shop at the corner of Pelham Parkway and Williamsbridge Road is the definition of a hidden gem. Everything on the menu is delicious. Like their better-known neighbor, Emilio’s, Joe’s has perfected using innovative ingredients in their pizzas, which are charmingly named after neighborhood landmarks. The pie we most recommend is The Williamsbridge: spicy honey drizzled over pepperoni, jalapeno and mozzarella. We also urge you to try one of their sandwiches. The chicken parm sandwich is a home run.

4. Zero Otto Nove

2357 Arthur Ave, The Bronx, NY 10458

This is the date-night pizza spot. Think marbled walls, warm lamp light and well-stocked wine racks. But this Arthur Avenue restaurant is more than just a vibe. The crunchy, thin-crust Neapolitan pies are spot on. Each pie uses sophisticated ingredients that are guaranteed to impress. Our favorite is the La Cirilo: Butternut squash puree, cream of truffle, mushrooms & fresh mozzarella.

5. Patricia’s Pizza of Tremont

3883 E Tremont Ave, Bronx, NY 10465

If Zero Otto Nove is the date spot, Patricia’s is spot for the family birthday party. This warm, bustling restaurant blends the comfort of a neighborhood Italian trattoria with pizza shop energy. The pies are huge and made with gooey cheese, thin and crispy crust and a vibrant, savory tomato sauce. Their offerings include the classics (Margherita, Quattro Formaggi, Alla Calabrese), as well as more adventurous choices (Giacomo’s Seafood Pasta, Pesto Gorgonzola Pizza).

6. Sam’s Pizza

232 W 231st St, Bronx, NY 10463

This Albanian-run pizza shop in the Northwest Bronx does a fantastic job producing the classic New York slice: their pizzas are thin and crispy with the perfect amount of cheese and the sauce has a sweet, garlicky flavor. It’s no-nonsense pizza at its best. The perfect spot to grab a quick slice.
