The Safest (and Least Safe) Neighborhoods in the Bronx
We examined NYPD data to rank the safest neighborhoods in the Bronx. What does the data say about your neighborhood?
In order to determine which are the safest neighborhoods in the Bronx, we examined public data from the NYPD. The agency has been using CompStat to track crime statistics in the city since 1994. It tracks reported crimes across 17 categories, including major crimes — defined as murder, rape, robbery, felony assault, burglary, grand larceny and grand theft auto. We examined the data for each Bronx precinct and ranked them by the number of major crimes reported this year. We also highlighted some of the individual crime statistics that stood out and examined how this year’s data compared to historical trends.
Overall, major crimes reported in the Bronx are down this year. Reported crimes fell in every category except grand larceny auto and rape, which is likely due to a recent legislative change that broadened the definition of rape. Reported murders fell in the Bronx by 16.9 percent. However, we still lead other boroughs in the number of murders despite having one of the smallest populations.
It’s important to remember that crime statistics paint a complex and mixed picture, often creating more questions than answers. Behind every data point is a story, a history and a set of circumstances. Read below to see how your community ranks on our list of the safest neighborhoods in the Bronx. What story do you think the data tells?
1. 50th Precinct (Kingsbridge, Marble Hill, Riverdale)
It should come as no surprise that the Bronx’s most affluent neighborhoods are also its safest. The 50th Precinct covers Kingsbridge, Marble Hill and Riverdale, which are three of the borough’s wealthiest neighborhoods. There were 1,242 reported major crimes in the 50th Precinct this year — a 20.83 percent reduction from the 1,560 reports of major crimes last year. In fact, reported crimes were down in almost every category this year except rape, which doubled from 13 reported rapes in 2024 to 26 reported rapes in 2025 (Likely due to changes to the definition of rape).
2. 41st Precinct (Longwood, Hunts Point)
Reported crimes in the 41st Precinct have steadily decreased in recent years. There were 1,372 reported major crimes this year — a 9.02 percent decrease from the 1,508 reported crimes in 2024. Most promising was the reduction in violent crimes. Reports of murder, robbery and felony assault fell from last year. The precinct did experience an increase in burglaries, as well as an increase in reported rapes which is likely attributed to legislation expanding the definition of rape.
3. 45th Precinct (Throgs Neck, Country Club, Pelham Bay, Coop City, City Island)
Many of the neighborhoods in the 45th Precinct can be described as quiet, almost suburban communities. Although these neighborhoods remain some of the safest in the Bronx, crime has been steadily increasing here for the last several years. There were 1,984 major crimes reported in the 45th Precinct in 2025 — a 11.27 percent increase from the 1,783 major crimes reported in 2024. The number of reported crimes increased in almost every category this year, which included a 233 percent increase in murders — putting it among the precincts with the greatest number of homicides.
4. 42nd Precinct (Morrisania, Claremont Village)
It should come as good news to see a slight decrease in major crimes in the 42nd Precinct this year. However, this is likely to bring little comfort to the family of Evette Jeffery, the 16-year-old girl shot dead by a stray bullet near a schoolyard on Home Street. Jeffrey was the first homicide victim in the 42nd Precinct this year. Sadly, she was not the last. The murder rate more than doubled since last year. Felony assault also saw a dramatic increase in the 42nd Precinct this year.
5. 48th Precinct (East Tremont, West Farms, Belmont)
While reported major crimes are slightly down over the previous year, the crime rate in the 48th precinct has steadily increased during the last several years. There has been a 61.78 percent increase in major crimes reported in the 48th precinct over the last 15 years. This year, there were 2,260 reported major crimes — a 3.83 percent decrease from the previous year. Most importantly, the 48th Precinct had the highest number of reported murders in the Bronx at 13, representing a 30 percent increase over the previous year. Reports of felony assault were also up.
6. 49th Precinct (Van Nest, Morris Park, Pelham Gardens, Allerton)
The 49th Precinct is another area of the Bronx where major crimes have steadily increased the last few years. If fact, this year, the 49th Precinct fell from the fourth safest precinct in the Bronx to number six. There were 2,266 reported major crimes here in 2025 — a 6.84 increase from the 2,121 reported crimes in 2024. Such crimes have increased by 43.96 percent during the last 15 years. Most of this years’ increase was attributed to incidences of grand theft auto, burglary and robbery. The number of murders remain low compared to other areas.
7. 46th Precinct (Morris Heights, University Heights, Mount Hope)
Although communities covered by the 46th Precinct remain among the least safe in the Bronx, there is some cause for optimism. The murder rate fell by more than half over the previous year — from 25 reported homicides in 2024 to eight this year. The 46th Precinct also saw decreases in felony assault, burglary and grand larceny. Overall, the rate of major crimes increased by 0.47 percent, from 2,330 in 2024 to 2,341 in 2025.
8. 52nd Precinct (Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham)
Neighborhoods in the 52nd Precinct remain among the least safe in the Bronx. The rate of reported major crimes increased by 6.42 percent this year, from 2,633 to 2,802 in 2025. Reported crimes increased in almost every category. However, the murder rate this year fell by half — from 12 homicides reported in 2024 to six this year.
9. 44th Precinct (High Bridge, Concourse Village, Mount Eden)
Although the 44th Precinct is still among the least safe in the Bronx, things seem to be improving. The incidence of reported major crimes fell by 12.65 percent this year, from 3,068 in 2024 to 2,680 in 2025. This reduction caused the 52nd precinct to come down from the precinct with the 11th highest number of reported major crimes in 2024 to number nine this year. Reported crimes fell in every category this year.
10.43rd Precinct (Soundview, Castle Hill, Unionport, Parkchester)
Reports of major crimes fell slightly in the 43rd Precinct this year, but a lot more improvement is needed, since it still ranks among the least safe parts of the Bronx. This precinct is tied for having the second highest number of reported homicides in the Bronx. There were 12 reported murders in the 43rd Precinct this year — the same as the previous year. Overall, there were 2,977 reported major crimes, a 1.29 percent reduction from the 3,016 reported major crimes last year.
11. 40th Precinct (Mott Haven, Port Morris, Melrose)
There isn’t much good to say about the number of reported crimes in the 40th Precinct. The number of homicides decreased slightly, but it is still among the highest in the borough. Overall, there were 3,202 reported major crimes this year, up 3.02 percent from 3,108 in 2024. The only reason this precinct did not have the most reported crimes this year, which was the case last year, is that crime rate in the 47th Precinct grew dramatically.
12. 47th Precinct (Baychester, Williamsbridge, Edenwald, Eastchester, Wakefield, Woodlawn)
The 47th Precinct had the greatest increase in reported major crimes in the Bronx this year. There were 3,259 reported major crimes in 2025 — up 11.50 percent from 2,923 such crimes in 2024. The number of murders increased by 50 percent – from 8 to 12. The 47th Precinct is tied with the 43rd for having the second highest number of murders. Every category, except robbery and burglary, saw an increase in reported crimes this year.
