NYC Media, the City of New York’s official broadcast network and media production group, is set to premiere its newest series In the House next week, shining a spotlight on the historic Van Cortlandt House in the Bronx. The episode — the first of the season — will explore the storied past of one of New York City’s oldest surviving buildings and its place in the city’s cultural landscape.

The premiere is scheduled to air Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at 7:30pm on on NYC Media’s flagship channel NYC Life. The episode promises viewers an immersive look at the colonial-era mansion nestled within Van Cortlandt Park.

Built in 1748 by Frederick Van Cortlandt, the Van Cortlandt House is a Georgian-style home recognized as the oldest existing house in the Bronx and served as the family residence for nearly 140 years before becoming a public museum in 1897. During the American Revolutionary War, the mansion’s strategic location made it a crossroads of history: both British and American troops occupied the house at various times, and it was a site of military significance during the conflict. After the City of New York acquired the property in the late 19th century, the National Society of Colonial Dames in the State of New York restored it as a museum showcasing 18th-century life and preserving its architectural legacy.

In the House will delve into these rich historical layers, featuring expert interviews and archival material to explore not just the architectural features of the Van Cortlandt House but also the stories of the people who lived and worked there centuries ago. The program aims to bring that history to life for contemporary audiences, linking colonial-era New York to the modern Bronx community that surrounds the home today.

Founded as NYC TV in 2003 and later rebranded as NYC Media under the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment, the network produces original, award-winning content that informs, educates and entertains New Yorkers about the city’s neighborhoods, people, government and culture. Its programming — available on broadcast television, online platforms, and on-demand services — reaches millions across the metropolitan area and beyond.
